2022 - 2023 Baseball & Softball Trainers
 

All trainers are required to pass a background check. Trainers are offered free CPR Training. 
Trainers will go through monthly meetings with Westside staff to make sure they're properly trained and discussions of any needs are presented.

Jason Chapa - (Booking Link) (Email)
Jason offers both baseball & softball lessons for all ages. Improving their fielding, throwing, and hitting is his goal. He will also run infield clinics and camps throughout the year. Jason graduated from West Ottawa High School in 2003, and was part of the 2003 D1 State Championship Baseball team. He played two years at Muskegon Community College as a starting outfielder. After MCC Jason became the President/Coach at Western Michigan University for their Club Baseball team. He has been coaching Travel Baseball for 13 years, and coached several HS athletes who have become college baseball players. As a travel coach he led two teams to the 18U AABC Regionals in Battle Creek. For a summer, Jason traveled the US instructing baseball camps for the Ripken Baseball Academy. Jason coached two years as assistant coach at Kalamazoo College, 7 years and counting varsity assistant coach at West Ottawa, and currently Owner/Coach at Westside Rattlers Baseball & Softball.


Mike Mokma - (Booking Link) (Email)
Mike is a 2016 graduate from Holland Christian. After high school Mike continued his playing career at Michigan State University where he pitched for 3 seasons. After college he was picked up by the LA Dodgers as an Undrafted free agent. Mike was assigned to pitch for High A Dodger affiliate Great Lakes Loons. He spent the full 2021 with the Loons and part of 2022 season. Currently he has been pitching for High A Mariners affiliate Everett AquaSox where he has been exceling. Mike looks to continue his success the rest of the year and continued growth going into next year. Mike will serve as our lead pitching instructor as well as introducing a Velo Program for us. We're excited to have Mike's knowledge and experience.

Ben Thomas - (Email)
Ben is a 2017 Zeeland East graduate. He just finished is last season as a pitcher for the Lakers of Grand Valley State University. He played at Kalamazoo Valley Community College for his first two years of college and transferred to GVSU after. He is in his second year of coaching for Westside Rattlers as an assistant coach for our 15u team. Ben has been doing pitching lessons for 3 years for kids ranging from 12u - 18u.

Maggie Bentley - (Email)
Maggie graduated from Grandville High School near the top of her class. She is a three time All-District, three time All-Region, two time HM All-Conference, and Academic All-State recipient where she pitched and played outfield for the Grandville Bulldogs. There, she was the leadoff hitter for two Conference Championships as well as the MHSAA Division 1 State Finals in 2017. In travel ball she's played on teams that won a State and National Championship. A "triple threat" in the batter's box, Maggie is knowledgeable about hitting, bunting, and slapping for the offensive side of softball. After high school, Maggie was an outfielder for Lansing Community College and got a degree in Engineering Physics. Currently a mechanical engineering major, Maggie also played softball at Calvin University, and is very knowledgeable about the game of softball and a player's mechanics in the field and at the plate. She is excited to join the Westside Rattlers organization and work with the young talent in the West Michigan area.
